    Job Description

    The Patient Advocacy leadis accountable for the development and implementation of an integrated Patient Advocacy Strategy regarding Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and build relationships with future pipeline as needed (e.g. ALS, FA, other). The candidate will build and deepen relationships with key external stakeholders and drive Biogen's position through active engagement at community events, medical congresses, patient conferences, etc.

    The Lead will liaise with the global public affairs and patient advocacy teams to bring international best practices to the affiliate, educate the affiliate about the challenges and benefits of engaging with the Media and Patient Advocacy Groups and will be responsible to develop local procedures and policies to guarantee that the function will be implemented in accordance with local compliance norms.

    The Patient Advocacy Lead will be a member of Patient Centricity team in Latin America South (LAS), providing strategic counsel and executing on patient advocacy engagement plans, while working cross functionally with PSP and Medical, Market Access, Corporate affairs, Communications and Commercial.

    What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute patient advocacy strategy in the Affiliate and work closely with the PSP, Market Access team, Communications team.
  • Engage with patient organizations, campaigning health groups, trade associations, and policymakers around projects that improve health outcomes in multiple sclerosis, SMA, Alzheimer's, and other conditions and rare diseases.
  • Map PAGs proposals and needs to define and align Biogen approach.
  • Participate in disease advocacy activities with thought leader boards who act as reference resources for PAGs
  • Create and implement activities, tools and materials (newsletter, disease materials, round tables and workshops with Patients & Caregivers)
  • Drive best practice sharing initiatives with regional and global teams
  • Advocacy plan and tactics development and monitoring
  • AOP and budget management and monitoring
  • Map PAGs proposals and define Sponsorships selection, request and reconciliation according to Biogen guidelines
  • Develop measurable goals to track the impact and effectiveness of strategies and tactics.
  • Create synergies with PSP and Medical teams (educational activities, materials, etc.)
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; public relations or communications preferred.
  • At least 3 years professional experience in Advocacy roles, Communications or Corporate Affairs arena with a focus on internal and external communications on a local or international level.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills
  • Knowledge of patient access environment and healthcare systems. Understanding of rare disease patient environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a matrix team and with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders on complex issues, effectively work across functions with strong collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in strategy and execution and flexible to find the right balance in working strategically and operationally, agile and hands-on mentality.
  • Good business understanding, with a strategic mindset to consider both short and long-term implications for the company.
  • Good sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Pharma or Biotech experience preferred.
  • Fluency in English.
