    The Team:

    The mission of the Pricing Quality & Model Governance team is to monitor, identify risk and develop effective remediation plans that mitigates risk across two of the core businesses of S&P Global Commodity Insights: benchmark pricing and analytics. This team sits within the expanding Business Controls & Quality team, which plays an integral role in mitigating evolving risk across the division, ensuring that this role will have consistent exposure to senior leadership and an opportunity for significant upskilling through real-world application.

    Responsibilities and Impact:

    This first-line of defense role sits within the Pricing Quality & Model Governance team with a specific focus on identifying and mitigating model risk within the analytics business through comprehensive quantitative deep dives of existing analytical models, and application of advanced statistical and energy market knowledge and programming. This brings this role into direct communication with front-line analysts and senior leadership and is empowered to develop scalable remediation plans. Beyond, this role will have a direct responsibility in supporting high profile initiatives, such as building a more robust model governance structure and helping integrate the modeling activities of various business lines into a combined Commodity Insights division. This role will support key activities such as:

    • Conducting analytical deep dives on models that identify risk within the existing modeling environment and mitigate that risk through scalable and enforceable remediation plans
    • Applying advanced statistical knowledge and programming skills to identify areas of key risk within model ecosystem
    • Linking known risks to existing ERM taxonomy for more informed decisions at the divisional level
    • Communicating review findings and remediation plans with senior leadership, and escalating where needed
    • Coordinating across various teams, including IT, modeling, and analytics, to support timely and effective implementation of remediation plans
    • Supporting the build out of model governance principles that fosters a more robust modeling environment
    • Collaborating with colleagues within different divisions to integrate and centralize all modeling activity within division
    • Developing a firmer understanding of energy markets through analytical deep dives and leveraging existing expertise across various Commodity Insights teams to foster "effective challenge" of models

    Responsibilities:

    Delivering model reviews under the banners of "Conceptual Soundness" and "Completeness & Accuracy of Code":

    • "Conceptual Soundness" examines
    • the documentation and methodology
    • model assumptions
    • context
    • limitations and/or violations
    • modeling concepts and comparisons to alternative theories/paradigms
    • qualitative & expert judgement; and
    • the choice of variables amongst other considerations.
    • "Completeness & Accuracy of Code" looks at
    • applicable standards such as the FAST standard for spreadsheets and other structured programming standards for programming codes such as Matlab or C++ for example
    • algorithmic implementation and replicability
    • formulae and any automated processes
    • User Acceptance Testing
    • code review; and
    • model and algorithmic variations (e.g. the choice from a plethora of numerical techniques).

    What We're Looking For:

    Basic Required Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree required
    • Professional proficiency in English
    • Quantitative mindset with a strong knowledge of advanced statistics, mathematics, econometrics, and programming, particularly Python, Matlab, SQL, and C++ Firm understanding about model risk and other regulatory standards, such as the Federal Reserve Board's SR11-7, or other relevant standards
    • 2+ years' experience in application of model risk, or identification and application of other risk theorems
    • Proactive in the identification of model risk items to senior leadership and in the completion of tasks
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, is essential given stakeholders that will be receiving and acting upon model review findings
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with colleagues across a wide range of expertise and backgrounds. Building relationships is essential in this role.
    • Foundational understanding of energy markets and its drivers, as well as the identification of risk and application of mitigation
    • Self-motivated with an eagerness to build upon this foundation knowledge through independent learning and interactions with experienced colleagues
    • Organized with effective time management skills to ensure multiple streams of work are completed on time and to a high standard
    • Strong lean / agile mindset
