The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co (“JPMC”) is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally conform to the Corporation's lines of business (LOBs) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis.
Position available for an experienced attorney to provide legal support across J.P. Morgan Asset Management, and in particular, to the Alternatives (“Alts”) businesses. With current assets under management of approximately $140 billion, the JPMorgan Asset Management Alts business manages strategies across the alternative investment spectrum, including real estate, private equity and credit, infrastructure, transportation, liquid alternatives and hedge funds. This position is an opportunity to work with an exciting, demanding and growing business.
The attorney will be a member of the team of attorneys who provide legal support to the Alts line of business. While the individual will have primary responsibilities relating to Alts Legal, the individual will also provide support across AM Legal to the Institutional and U.S. Funds Legal practice groups.
Provide legal support for the JPMorgan Asset Management Alternatives businesses.
Review and negotiate confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements (“NDAs”) and related documents across various Alts businesses
Work on new investment fund launches and fund restructurings
Assist in drafting, reviewing and updating agreements, disclosure materials and other documents, including investment management agreements and service provider agreements, risk factors and conflicts disclosures and conflict waivers
Collaborate on firm-wide and AM Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives
Coordinate and assist with special projects and Alts-wide or Legal Department initiatives
Coordinate internal litigation searches and fund audit letters with JPMC Litigation
Assist with internal global entity management system
Support the business on regulatory developments
Collaborate and coordinate as needed with other members of the Legal Department and other control functions (e.g., Compliance, Risk Management) both within the U.S. and globally to identify and resolve issues.
Fluent in written and spoken English, with excellent English writing and communication skills.
Law degree and membership in jurisdictional organization. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
5+ years of experience in financial services law, ideally gained within a leading local law firm or within the legal department of a financial institution (preferably including a private client or asset management business with an international angle).
Business awareness and the ability to provide practical advice and solutions, communicate with the business and exercise independent judgment.
Ability to work independently, multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, complex business environment
Comfort with technology and learning new systems
Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
Experience or interest in financial services regulation.
Knowledge of the U.S. legislative and regulatory process.
Experience studying or working in a common law jurisdiction (e.g., UK, US, Australia).
