The Team You Will Join

The U.S. Experience Studies team is responsible for experience analysis and assumption recommendations for segments within U.S. Business and MetLife Holdings. The team's key business partners are the Global and U.S. Chief Actuary, the segment Lead Actuaries, and modeling and valuation actuaries.

The Opportunity

The Director is responsible for supporting, coordinating, and managing experience studies within U.S. Business and MetLife Holdings, including playing a key role in conducting, reviewing, and overseeing experience studies for MLH Retail Life and Annuities, as well as potentially other lines of business.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver substantial impact across a variety of experience studies, play a leading role in MetLife's assumption setting process, and propel MetLife into the New Frontier through exceptional leadership and actuarial insight.

Success in this role requires an ability to plan and execute effectively, distill complexity into clear and actionable insights, and deliver substantive review and oversight across various key areas.

The Director will collaborate closely with experience study leads, segment Lead Actuaries, modeling and valuation actuaries, and data systems teams, in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.

How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

• Lead various experience studies across MLH Retail Life and Annuities
• Oversee and review experience studies for accuracy and potential improvements
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure study results are delivered accurately and on time
• Manage multiple competing priorities to ensure they are prioritized for impact
• Create clear insight from complex actuarial and technical information
• Own and communicate assumption recommendations to actuarial stakeholders
• Develop internal actuarial and technical capabilities

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)

• At least 5 years of actuarial experience
• Strong sense of accountability, understanding the broader implications of one's work, and ability to be entrusted with sensitive and financially impactful work
• Exceptional mathematical and analytical capabilities, including recognizing how actuarial factors interact through complex higher‑order relationships and discerning key drivers from tertiary effects
• Strong strategic and operational leadership skills—formulating long‑term vision, converting plan into actionable near‑term steps, driving project delivery, and anticipating obstacles before they arise
• Skilled at managing multiple competing priorities while focusing on and prioritizing highest impact work
• Proven ability to provide meaningful and effective review of actuarial work— spotting methodological and operational errors, applying actuarial intuition to results‑checking, and reviewing for reasonability through multiple lenses simultaneously
• Ability to navigate complex actuarial and technical information, and distilling it into simple, concise, and compelling insights
• Ability to learn quickly and develop deep expertise in various MetLife products and assumptions
• Undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or other quantitative field, or equivalent qualification
• Effective written and verbal communication skills (English language)
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders through active listening, clear articulation of issues, thoughtful recommendations, and effective coordination in time‑sensitive environments
• Proven capacity to operate autonomously, take initiative, and oversee deliverables to completion
• Proactive mindset with a strong emphasis on improving processes via automation, AI capabilities, and simplification initiatives
• Advanced level Excel skills
• Interest in working with data analytics, database systems, and intelligence platforms
• Ability to present thought‑out recommendations clearly and succinctly

• Prior experience in actuarial assumption setting
• Expertise in Retail Life and Annuity products
• Experience presenting recommendations to senior management
• Familiarity with data platforms, languages, and visualization software like Alteryx, SQL, and PowerBI
